

Biography
Dr. Sophie Cai graduated at the top of her class from Harvard College with a degree in Chemistry and Physics. She completed her medical degree at Harvard Medical School, followed by an internship in Internal Medicine at the Massachusetts General Hospital.
Dr. Cai went on to complete her ophthalmology residency at the Wilmer Eye Institute (Johns Hopkins), where she received the Frank L. Coulson, Jr. Award for Clinical Excellence and W. Richard Green Housestaff Teaching Award. As a surgical retina fellow at the Duke Eye Center, she was the recipient of multiple awards including the Heed Fellowship, Duke School of Medicine Golden Apple Medical Student Teaching Award, and Duke Eye Center Best Research Presentation by Clinical Fellow Award.
Dr. Cai was selected to return to Johns Hopkins as an Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology, the Stephen J. Ryan Assistant Chief of Service, and Associate Director of Ocular Trauma. She served for three years on the faculty of Johns Hopkins, where she cared for patients with complex retinal conditions and helped to teach Wilmer residents and retina fellows. Since joining Southeastern Retina Associates, Dr. Cai sees patients in our Chattanooga and Georgia locations.
In her free time, Dr. Cai enjoys exploring the outdoors and spending time with family and friends.
