

Biography
Asghar "Abbas" Haider earned his undergraduate degree in Neuroscience with a minor in Political Science from University of California, Los Angeles. He went on to receive both his medical degree and MBA from University of California, Irvine. During medical school, he received the Excellence in Medicine Leadership Award from the American Medical Association for founding and leading a mentorship organization dedicated to supporting underserved youth in achieving academic success.
Dr. Haider completed his ophthalmology residency at Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center, where he was recognized as Outstanding Graduate of the Year. He subsequently completed the prestigious Ocular Oncology Fellowship at Duke University, followed by a Vitreoretinal Disease and Surgery Fellowship at Retina Consultants of Alabama, one of the nation’s premier surgical retina training programs. During fellowship, he performed more than 1,200 surgical retinal procedures.
Dr. Haider has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications and presentations in retinal diseases and ocular oncology and has received multiple scholarships and research grants throughout his training.
At Southeastern Retina Associates, Dr. Haider specializes in medical and surgical retina care as well as ocular oncology. He is involved in the management of complex ocular tumors, including plaque brachytherapy for intraocular cancers, and participates in multiple clinical trials, including investigational therapies in ocular oncology and retinal disease.
Outside of work, Dr. Haider enjoys spending time with his wife and children, staying active, exploring new restaurants, and traveling with family and friends.
