Full Biography

Dr. Googe started his professional training as an undergraduate chemical engineering major at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville in 1975, and finished medical school at the UT College of Medicine in Memphis in 1978. His academic versatility is a complement to his practice and a benefit to his many patients. He completed an internship in internal medicine at UT Memphis, and spent time as an Emergency Room physician at UT Medical Center in Knoxville before serving an ophthalmology residency at Louisiana State University in New Orleans.

Dr. Googe was honored with three postgraduate fellowships: Royal Melbourne Hospital in Australia, Anterior Segment Surgery, 1983; followed closely in the next year by a fellowship in Ophthalmic Pathology at the University of Utah, Salt Lake City; and a Harvard University fellowship in vitreal-retinal surgery, for two years, at the Retina Associates of Boston and the Massachusetts Eye & Ear Infirmary.

Following his exceptional training, he joined Southeastern Retina Associates in 1986. Today he works closely on the steering committee, executive committee, and as protocol co-chair of the National Eye Institute’s  Diabetic Retinopathy Clinical Research Network.
