Francis Char DeCroos, MD Joins Southeastern Retina Associates

Francis Char DeCroos, MD began seeing patients in September 2013 when he and his family moved to Chattanooga. Dr. DeCroos previously lived in Philadelphia where he completed his retina fellowship training at Wills Eye Hospital. At this hospital, he helped provide the bulk of retina care to the population of over 6 million people in the metropolitan Philadelphia area.

When considering practice across the country, he connected with Nick Anderson, MD and R. Keith Shuler, MD of Southeastern Retina associates. Dr. DeCroos was thrilled to find that Southeastern Retina associates was a ideal blend of cutting edge clinical skill combined with a 30+ year tradition of compassionate care.

Dr. DeCroos is joined by his wife Emily DeCroos. They are both pleased to be in the southeast near family after many years of training.

Dr. DeCroos grew up in northwest Florida before completed his undergraduate studies in biology at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He then graduated from Duke University Medical school before doing his residency training at Duke Eye Center. Afterwards, Dr. DeCroos assisted with several landmark clinical trials during a retina research fellowship at the Duke Reading Center. Finally, Dr. DeCroos completed his training in medical and surgical diseases of the retina under mentorship of the Wills Eye Hospital faculty.

Dr. DeCroos has had the opportunity to hone his scientific skills along with his clinical acumen. He has presented research at multiple international meetings, has written numerous publications based on his scientific research, and has designed multiple clinical trials. For these efforts he has been recognized with multiple awards, including the Heed Fellowship and Ronald G. Michels fellowship. The latter award for example, was given to only 5 retina specialists nationwide.

Dr. DeCroos is most excited about clinical research and clinical trials as they allow him to offer improved treatments to each of his patients day to day. He believes that this commitment to innovation from around the world will allow him to improve the lives of his patients in the most meaningful fashion.

Southeastern Retina Associates Opens New Sevierville Office

Southeastern Retina Associates announces the opening of a new, state-of-the-art location in Sevierville, TN. The medical and retina specialists of Southeastern Retina Associates are excited about this expansion, which will bring the compassion and expertise of 30+ years of complete retina care to our patients and referring doctors in the Sevierville Region.

The Sevierville facility doors open to patients in November of 2013 for diabetes, macular degeneration, retinal vascular diseases, retinal detachments, retina surgery, and a wide range of macular and retina disorders. Our Knoxville area retina surgeons will evaluate patients at this new location and have committed to providing the highest standards of care consistent with being leaders in the treatment retinal diseases. Our 20 conveniently located facilities throughout Eastern Tennessee, Southern Virginia and Northern Georgia, house cutting edge diagnostic equipment, a nationally recognized clinical trials program, and the latest therapies to which only our patients have access.
